Laboratory Testing: Strengthening One Health Surveillance in Rwanda

At the Rwanda One Health Innovation Network (ROHIN), laboratory testing plays a critical role in early detection, prevention, and response to health threats that affect humans, animals, and the environment. By supporting innovative diagnostic tools and strengthening laboratory capacity, we help ensure that communities are protected from emerging diseases and environmental hazards.

Our work focuses on promoting accurate, reliable, and rapid testing across multiple sectors. From zoonotic diseases and food safety to environmental monitoring and antimicrobial resistance, laboratory diagnostics provide the evidence needed to make informed health decisions. Through collaboration with research institutions, universities, and public health laboratories, ROHIN drives innovation that enhances national surveillance systems.

We continue to champion technologies that make laboratory testing more accessible, particularly in rural and underserved communities. By empowering local laboratories with modern equipment, digital tools, and skilled professionals, we contribute to a resilient One Health ecosystem capable of identifying risks early and preventing outbreaks before they spread.

Together, we are building a future where science, innovation, and collaboration safeguard the wellbeing of people, animals, and the environment.
