Ensuring safe, high-quality milk begins with strong quality control systems at milk collection centers. At the Rwanda One Health Innovation Network (ROHIN), we emphasize the importance of continuous milk quality monitoring to protect consumers, support farmers, and strengthen Rwanda’s dairy value chain.

Milk collection centers play a crucial role as the first checkpoint where milk from many farmers is assessed before entering the market. Effective quality tracking involves checking for freshness, temperature, hygiene standards, density, and possible contamination. Regular testing—such as acidity levels, alcohol tests, antibiotic residue screening, and microbial assessments—helps identify issues early and prevents unsafe milk from being distributed.

By promoting proper hygiene practices, standardized testing procedures, and reliable record-keeping, ROHIN supports dairy cooperatives and processors in maintaining high standards of food safety. Quality tracking not only safeguards public health but also increases farmer confidence and enhances the overall value of Rwanda’s dairy sector.

Through training, innovation, and collaboration, we are committed to improving milk quality management and strengthening resilient, safe, and profitable dairy systems for communities across the country.
