Mastitis is one of the most common and costly diseases affecting dairy cows, directly impacting milk quality and farm productivity. At the Rwanda One Health Innovation Network (ROHIN), we provide practical training to farmers and dairy workers on regular udder health checks, empowering them to prevent, detect, and manage mastitis effectively.

During the training, participants learn how to:

  • Conduct daily visual and physical udder inspections
  • Identify early signs of clinical and subclinical mastitis
  • Maintain proper milking hygiene and sanitation
  • Use record-keeping to monitor udder health and treatment outcomes
  • Implement preventive measures to reduce infection risk

By performing regular udder health checks, farmers can catch infections early, reduce the need for antibiotics, improve milk quality, and ensure the wellbeing of their cows. ROHIN’s training equips dairy farmers with the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary for safer, healthier, and more productive dairy herds, contributing to Rwanda’s One Health goals.
